About The Event

Filling in the Blanks is a charity that provides weekend meals to local children in need who are eligible for the free or reduced lunch program. Since the onset of COVID-19, Connecticut's food insecurity rate has risen from 13.4% to 22.8%, and the uncertainty of what will happen next lingers in the minds of families that struggle to put food on the table. In Fairfield and Westchester Counties, Filling in the Blanks will provide 3,600 children with the nutrition that their young minds and bodies need.

In the past years, during the holiday season, Filling in the Blanks has provided new backpacks through the Holiday Backpack Program, filled with food, books, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hats, gloves and a small toy to these children who may not receive any gifts.

Last year FITB’s distributed over 2,200 filled backpacks to local schools. As a result of COVID-19 the numbers have jumped to 3,600 this year.

This year, with the uncertainty of COVID-19 and potential, unpredictable school closures, Filling in the Blanks will distribute new backpacks filled with pancake mix and syrup and books to these children in November. The sturdy backpacks will not only provide a gift to the child but are a valuable means of transportation for their critical food packages.

Please consider donating a backpack by clicking on the button below from either vendor. Donations will be delivered directly to the FITB warehouse.

If you would like to make a donation to the Holiday Backpack program in general, please click the Holiday Backpack button.
