About The Event
St Luke's will host a Virtual 5K for #GivingTuesdayNow to benefit Filling in the Blanks. Giving Tuesday Now is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The virtual race will seek to build community and raise funds as a way of giving back now. Filling in the Blanks is a 501c3 nonprofit which fights childhood hunger by providing children in need with meals on the weekends.
St. Luke's mission: an exceptional education that inspires a deep love of learning, a strong moral compass, the commitment to serve, and the confidence to lead. Our school motto is "Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve" so you can see that service is so important to us and to our identity. We have always enjoyed a strong relationship with Filling in the Blanks and this seemed like the perfect time to try doing a 5K.
Filling in the Blanks is a local non profit that fights childhood hunger by providing children in need with meals on the weekends. In Fairfield County, more than 33,000 children are not sure where their next meal will come from. Most will get breakfast and lunch from school every weekday, but many will go from Friday lunch until Monday at breakfast without a decent meal. Filling in the Blanks is an organization that fills in those weekend gaps by providing each child in its program with a bag filled with healthy food for the weekend. When the obstacle of food insecurity is removed, children experience increased academic achievement in school and increase opportunities for success in their lives.
Founded in 2013 by two Fairfield County residents, Shawnee Knight and Tina Kramer, Filling in the Blanks is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has grown from serving 50 kids to serving more than 2200 kids in Fairfield and Westchester counties.
