Filling in the Blanks is celebrating the Week of the Young Child by advocating for a lifetime of success for all children. Each year, for 5 days in April, we celebrate our youngest learners! The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration hosted by NAEYC to spotlight early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities. Together, we can make sure Early childhood education wins—across the country and in our community!
Children learn so much as they enjoy music, explore food and cooking, build together, create art, and celebrate their families! Each element is so important for a child to grow and be their own individual that during the Week of the Young Child we celebrate each element on a difference day! Tuesday is always Tasty Tuesday, where the focus is on the role food plays in a young child's life. Filling in the Blanks is proud to be working towards a hunger free world, where these kids can be fueled to grow, learn and just have fun.
In 2017, 40M Americans, including 12.5M children, struggled with hunger. Child nutrition and backpack programs help! This #TastyTuesday join FITB in the fight to make sure all children can grow up healthy. FITB currently provides 1,550 food kits weekly to children in our area. These kids struggle to concentrate in school when their hungry. Roaring stomachs cause children to be cranky, hyperactive, and aggressive. These behavioral issues can distract kids from their school work, leading to developmental delays and learning disabilities. Fifty percent of children facing hunger will need to repeat a grade.
For just $5.25 a weekend, you could help provide a bag of non-perishable, easy to prepare food items and a fresh piece of fruit to a child in need. With such a small donation you can truly make a huge impact in a child life. Thats why this week FITB is making sure we unite as a community and do all we can to provide weekend meals to the children in need.
Tasty Tuesday isn’t just about eating your favorite snacks together. It’s also about cooking together and connecting math with literacy skills and science while introducing ways to incorporate healthy habits into children’s lifestyles. We want all of the children in FITB's program to be equipped with the necessary tools to learn, grow and thrive- this starts with a full belly and an able mind! Join us as we celebrate the Week of the Young Child!
