Local businesses help fight childhood hunger together alongside Filling in the Blanks in Norwalk, CT

Updated: May 1, 2020

Local businesses Culinary Works, and DEANE, Inc and Wagon Wheel Fine Wines & Spirits are celebrating Cinco de Mayo by supporting Filling in the Blanks in their fight against childhood hunger during the Coronavirus crisis.

Set in the DEANE, Inc. Stamford showroom, the Mexican-themed cooking & cocktails class will feature three of Culinary Works’ signature recipes along with a demonstration on how to make the perfect margarita from Wagon Wheel Fine Wines & Spirits. Scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at 6 p.m., registrants will receive in advance all the recipes that will be prepared that evening so they can follow along at home. Interested participants are asked to make a $75 donation to Filling in the Blanks which will provide 15 weekend meal bags for children.

“With all of my corporate cooking events and seasonal cooking classes on hold, I’ve been hosting my own nightly cooking show at home,” said Julia Deane, founder and executive chef of Culinary Works, a premier cooking school in Fairfield County. “With food hunger levels in America at an all-time high, I knew this was a terrific opportunity to help support Filling in the Blanks’ mission.”

Her husband Peter, principal at DEANE, Inc, a luxury purveyor of distinctive cabinetry and design said, “We are proud to have partnered with Filling in the Blanks since their mission began 7 years ago. They serve the at-risk population of children who face elevated levels of food insecurity with the Coronavirus putting millions of Americans out of work, and it is a truly noble mission.”

“We could not have been more appreciative when approached with this concept,” said the organization’s co-founder/co-director Shawnee Knight. “Mexican food and margaritas are a fun and festive way to spend a Saturday night at home and we are excited to bring people together,” added Tina Kramer.

Paul Jordanopoulos, of Wagon Wheel Fine Wines & Spirits, has designed tequila tasting kits for purchase to accompany the event through a donation from Casamigos. “As a small business owner, it is our responsibility to help the local organizations that make our communities strong and vibrant places.”

100% of both the class fee and alcohol sales will be donated to Filling in The Blanks. Each $75 donation will fund 15 weekend meal kits. Visit https://culinaryworks.com/cooking-and-cocktails-for-a-cause/ to learn more and register.
